Nothing can really replace having someone show you how to do it. Everyone will tell you it's all about practice, practice, practice and to remember the phrase "IT WILL GROW BACK". Grooming your dog yourself is an excellent bonding experience for both you.
Here's a some external links you might want to check out:
*excellent page with examples of beveling the feet (new). This is tailored more towards show grooming.
*has a chart for using different blade sizes. Most people start out using the standard #10 blade, which comes standard with most clippers.
We used to take all of our cockers and have them groomed by a mobil grooming service, but even with the discount for having so many we decided to watch the groomer one day and learn how its all done. I mean we have all given our dogs baths when they have gotten dirty... but grooming... we were all so nervous! But after that we all got the courage and decided... "that's it, I'm doing it myself!!!" Now again there are some wonderful cocker groomers out there, but sometimes people aren't as lucky as others to be near a good one. Some people would rather do it themselves as a hobby, profession, or to save money in the long run if you have several dogs. Needless to say... the mobile grooming service went out of business three months after we stopped the service (lol).
